It is actually the first book of Nevada Barr and I have never read anything I can say is that I can not believe that did not learn of this great mystery series earlier! Nevada Barr writes is simply beautiful. Each metaphor, every thought and poetic imagination is exquisite. To give an example, the Mississippi is described as “without doubt, women, the great mother, a blowsy, fecund, fertile mastodons.
When Barr brings considerable storytelling gifts to one story set in post-Katrina New Orleans, the result is magical. I can not say how the novel compared with other books in the series Ana Paloma, but compared with many other mystery series, including those set in New Orleans, this book is certainly worthy of attention. Anna Pigeon, the protagonist of the series, a very complex, multilayered personality that I can not wait to see the other books in these masses beloging.

The first is that of Anna Pigeon, a National Park ranger, who arrives in New Orleans to rest and visit his friend’s talent Geneva. Soon Anna Pigeon is facing certain realities of the typical New Orleans: magic shops, Voodoo, gangs of people homeless. The other story is that of Claire, an actress who has lost his family in a strange incident and exciting. Both stories have stuck to the pages until they converge and begin to develop a thread that you desperately to unravel the mystery.
It is a great book, and if the series is half as good, and author Nevada Barr is a worthwhile read and follow.

In Book 16, gray and red head Anna Pigeon is forced vacation in New Orleans post Katrina. I so enjoy Nevada Barr’s work, writing in the world of monsters, while its star, Park Service Ranger Anna Pigeon, managed to hold his soul. This time, Anna is in danger in an unknown territory, the city of New Orleans post-Katrina. On a trip to stay with an old friend in Geneva, a blind singer, Anna keeps in touch with her new husband, Paul, by phone late at night when he finished his duties in another city. The story begins with three different scenarios: Blackie and Dougie talking about something in a coffin, the bombing of a house owned by a Seattle man of the Middle East and his family (all the dead, but the mother), and Ana Paloma vacationing in New Orleans. How do these all together is the plot of the book. This will take you on a journey through madness and depravity. Not for the timid.
